Kansas football receiving votes in national polls after 3-0 start

The Kansas football team is officially on the radar of voters voting in college football.

While the Jayhawks (3-0) are not yet ranked in the Associated Press Top 25 or the USA Today Coach Poll, they are receiving votes in both.

KU got 23 votes in the new AP poll released on Sunday and five in the Koch poll on Sunday.

23 votes essentially put Lance Leipold’s team in 34th place in the AP poll.

That’s ahead of programs like LSU (6 votes) and Wisconsin (4 votes) and makes Kansas one of the five big 12 programs contested in this week’s AP poll. Oklahoma (6), Oklahoma State (9), Baylor (17) and Texas (22) all rank.

The last time the Kansas program was ranked in an AP poll of college football was on October 18, 2009, when it was ranked 24th in the poll. The Jayhawks lost to Oklahoma, 35–13, in 25th place that week, and were out of the polls altogether for the next 673 weeks.

KU hosts the undefeated Duke at 11 a.m. next Saturday – on FS1 – and a win in that game will give Kansas a serious shot at cracking next week’s turnout.

The Jayhawks are open as the 7.5-point favorite on the Blue Devils and prepare for a wild atmosphere and potentially sell-out crowds.

Poll news wasn’t the only initial praise the Jayhawks received after Saturday’s win in Houston.

KU quarterback Jalon Daniels was named Walter Camp National FBS Offensive Player of the Week.

KU Junior contributed 281 yards and five touchdowns to the KU win, completing 14 of 23 passes for three TDs and adding two quick scores.

Daniels Walter Kemp is the first Jayhawk to earn the National Player of the Week honor. North Carolina State’s Aiden White was named the Walter Kemp National Defensive Player of the Week.

Daniels was named last week on the Manning Award Star of the Week, the Davey O’Brien Great 8 List and the Davey O’Brien Midseason Watch List after passing for 219 yards and 3 touchdowns in a 55–42 overtime loss. was. Victory over West Virginia.
